Here are a few pictures and sweet sites I have found of Skagway, Gateway to the Klondike ! Soon enough I will be taking my own pics and vids for you all to see :) !
The scenic town of Skagway was founded during the Klondike Gold Rush in the 1890's. Visitors can go back in time to the days of the Gold Rush as they stroll through downtown Skagway, viewing many restored historical buildings. Broadway Street is the main street of town and has 7 blocks of restored buildings and a historical character and is bustling with activity and people, some in gold rush era clothing. The Skagway Streetcar Company uses unique eight-door stretch automobiles from 1937 to on a popular city sightseeing tour..
In addition to its history, Skagway offers access to Alaska's great outdoors and all of Alaska's many fun summer and winter activities.
Gold Rush National Historical Park
The history of the Klondike Gold Rush is preserved at this Park. Visitors can view the 30 minute official Gold Rush history film at the Visitor Center theater, take Park Ranger guided tours, visit the historic Mascot Saloon and other historic buildings in Skagway, and hike the Chilkoot Trail. The Mascot Saloon, built in 1898, has been restored and features exhibits depicting the old saloon at the height of the gold rush.
White Pass and Yukon Railroad
This railway has one of the most scenic routes in the world, up to White Pass summit. Visitors begin at Skagway and travel 32 km to the Summit of the White Pass at an 874 meter elevation.
Visitors relax in old-fashioned parlor cars as the train retraces the original route to the White Pass summit, passing Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point and Dead Horse Gulch. Visitors enjoy a breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles and historic sites.
The railway was built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush and the railroad is recognized as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, which is a designation shared with the Panama Canal, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
